You could lose the player by the owning team keeping the player. There’s nothing to lose in regular FA, so this is basically that except every team can put a RFA tag on one player with an expiring contract and decide if he’s worth the $ for one more year or to give him up for a compensation pick.

nothing. It's just like regular FA but the team with the guy expiring can ultimately decide to either keep him or get some compensation for him.

I agree with padres. I would add to that by saying the winning team should lose a pick they have and not create extra picks.

Sounds like you guys won a mixture of RFA and qualifying offer. Why do we have to add a punitive aspect to the restricted free agent? Just curious.

I just don’t see the point of a team not giving anything up…….

Look at it like you get something when your guy gets bid on! In FA, the team doesn't give up anything (other than the $ the player will cost). That's why it's Restricted FA. It leaves the final call up to the original owner to keep the guy just one last year, but then you also don't lose him for nothing!

Okay, so i think what people are looking for is like RFA in Hockey. Team A player is deemed a RFA, Team B signed the player to an offer sheet, Player accepted offer sheet, team had a certain amount of days to match or decline. Team A declined and Team B had to send the corresponding draft pick.
Does this sound correct?

I don’t like making up draft picks out of the air……otherwise owners will just come on once in a while and just place a bid and then leave they have nothing to lose

I am not talking about making up draft picks, this way the team making the bid will be the team losing one of there own draft picks, not a consolation pick, it will be that teams pick.
