What happens is we sign a player let’s say for 10m 6 yrs and he gets COVID and dies (I hope that does not happen)?

It’s a legit concern - in the past when we’ve had players pass away tragically (Jose Fernandez, Oscar Tavares) we’ve treated it the same as a retirement aka no cap hit and removed from the roster.

What we also did this past offseason was any player who opted out due to COVID concerns didn’t count against the cap for this year under their existing contract. If there are more opt outs in 2021 we’ll do the same
