Always thought I would do this but never had time - but since I'm not playoff bound, I do now! Now that the deadline has passed this is the current rankings of all team's farm systems before the 2022 MiLB Draft. Note that these rankings are based on current rankings from a few websites - players who are still considered prospects in this league this year may have graduated from these lists mid way through the year, which would affect the rankings. Feel free to agree, disagree, discuss!
Farm System Rankings
1. St Louis Cardinals
Notable Prospects - Gunnar Henderson, Robert Hassell III, take your pick - you've probably got a ~20% chance someone from a top 100 list is here
Notable Graduates - Adley Rutschman, Spencer Torkelson,my cousin Vinnie Pasquatino, etc.
Loaded. Clear #1. And with 5 1st round picks in 2022, will just add more!
2. Washington Nationals
Notable Prospects - Gabriel Moreno, Grayson Rodriguez
Notable Graduates - Michael Harris (and his contract!)
Dreaming on how good Elly De La Cruz might be...what a 5th round pick last year
3. Oakland A's
Notable Prospects - Anthony Volpe, Noelvi Marte
Notable Graduates - Kiebert Ruiz, Nick Lodolo
A bit of a down year from Volpe, but lots of high ceilings still here with Marte, Luciano, etc.
4. Montreal Expos
Notable Prospects - Eury Perez, Kyle Harrison
Notable Graduates - Nolan Gorman, Spencer Strider
More pitching coming with Eury and Harrison, with Henry Davis coming to catch for them soon too
5. California Angels
Notable Prospects - Jackson Chourio, Cade Cavalli
Notable Graduates - CJ Abrams, Alek Thomas
A lot of reloading this year as I tanked for the first time in a while, most of my prospects weren't drafted by me (aside from Bello) but I've added a bunch!
6. Baltimore Orioles
Notable Prospects - Francisco Alvarez, Owen White
Notable Graduates - MJ Melendez, Bobby Witt Jr, Oneil Cruz
Would have ranked top 3 if not for all the graduates, and still a great system headed by Francisco Alvarez and some breakouts this year
7. Minnesota Twins
Notable Prospects - Corbin Carroll, Oswald Peraza
Notable Graduates - Riley Greene, Jeremy Pena
One top OF prospect has reached the majors and another isn't far behind in Carrol. A few really top end talents here
8. Cincinnati Reds
Notable Prospects - Jack Leiter, Justin Foscue
Notable Graduates - Hunter Greene
A bit of a down year on a system that may have ranked higher pre-season, but doesn't mean that Leiter, Austin Martin, others can't turn things around. Would have ranked higher before trades for young MLBers in Bichette / Eloy
9. Houston Astros
Notable Prospects - Jordan Walker, D.L. Hall
Notable Graduates - Joe Ryan
Walker is a stud, and a couple decent pitchers in Hall and Kilian should be joining him soon. Would be big if Nick Yorke breaks through
10. Boston Red Sox
Notable Prospects - Jordan Lawlar, Andrew Painter, Masyn Winn
Notable Graduates -
Painter has been a huge breakout and Winn had that crazy throw at the futures game, definitely toolsy. Will be interesting to see if / when Casas makes the Sox in real life and in fantasy!
11. Toronto Blue Jays
Notable Prospects - Quinn Priester, Ivan Herrera
Notable Graduates - Jarren Duran
Priester has to stay healthy but could be really good and Herrera is the heir apparent to Yadi, big shoes to fill
12. Chicago Cubs
Notable Prospects - Gunnar Hoglund, Brandon Williamson
Notable Graduates - Julio Rodriguez
J-Rod alone would push things way up, but sadly he's graduated (although he'll come in handy in a playoff run). Some interesting former International signees that may break out down the line
13. San Diego Padres
Notable Prospects - Luis Campusano, Cole Henry
Notable Graduates -
Campusano should be graduating full time soon, Henry has great stuff if he stays healthy. Can Heston Kjerstad live up to his draft slot?
14. Atlanta Braves
Notable Prospects - Jackson Jobe, Matt McLain
Notable Graduates - Mitch White
Love Mitch White! Hope he does well for my Jays. Detroit may regret picking Jobe over a bunch of SS last year, Braves have to hope that he starts taking some steps forward - high school pitching takes a while, though
15. Detroit Tigers
Notable Prospects - Hunter Brown
Notable Graduates - Ried Detmers
Dealt Cavalli for Scherzer, and graduated Detmers, otherwise would be higher with more pitching. Brown's had a great year
16. San Francisco Giants
Notable Prospects - Will Bednar
Notable Graduates - Joey Bart, Camilo Doval
Unfortunately these Giants don't have Kyle Harrison...yet. Never know with Bednar and will have the SFG catching locked down between Bart and Bailey for a while
This was fun, hope you all enjoyed!
