Any player who is under an MLB contract may be extended, but each player may only be extended once. Players who are in pre-arbitration (years zero-three in service time according to league rules, NOT actual MLB service time) may not be extended. Every team may extended no more than 3 players per year. We will be using a scale based on the player's ranking in total points scored in the previous year for the extensions. The scale is as follows:
Scale for Extensions:
1-5= $6M Added
6-15= $5M Added
16-25= $4M Added
26-50= $3M Added
51-100= $2M Added
101-200= $1M Added
201- 300= $.5M Added
301+= $.3M Added
Each year a player is extended for results in an increase in salary dependent on the scale. Team options may only be added to the final year of an extension.
If a player has an existing MLB contract, the extension will be added on to the end of the contract. All players must have at least 3 years of league service time before they are eligible for extension. This means that 3 years after they've reached the AB/IP threshold for their position (including the year they reach the threshold and no longer become a prospect), they are eligible to be extended if they have an MLB contract or are arbitration eligible. An extension will replace arbitration years.
Once a player is eligible for arbitration, the player is eligible for extension. The player's salary would be 1M + the scale for the next year.
All Extensions must be posted and approved by a League Manager. Once approved, the contract of the player will be updated on the master roster.
